June Tunes

Wow – June already.  I’ve been beavering away on a new EP which I’m aiming to have ready for my Edinburgh Fringe gig with the full band.  (Sat 13th Aug since you asked 🙂

This Sunday, I’m very happy to be supporting 2 stunning singer songwriters at the Voodoo Rooms, Edinburgh – Lorna Brooks & Jennifer John.

Lorna Brooks and Jennifer John

Lorna Brooks is a revered name in the Edinburgh singer songwriter world having released 3 stunning albums and worked with the likes of John Martyn, Janis Ian,  Loudon Wainwright III,  Jimmy Sommerville,  Candi Staton and Eric Bibb

I had the pleasure of working with Jennifer John on a series of gigs with Big Big Sing last year and not only is she one of the UK’s most respected singers, she has also written and worked with an enviable catalog of music legends (Brian Eno, Damon Albarn, Paco Pena and Imogen Heap)

This will be a rare collaboration show, with yours truly opening up!  You should give yourself the gift of an extended weekend with a Sunday night of amazing live music.

Finally, tonight I’m performing with local heroes Douglas Kay and Alan R Davison as part of “A Songwriter’s Circle” for the Corstorphine Festival at Lucy’s Cafe.  Doors 7:30

A Songwriter’s Circle

I’m currently on tour with acclaimed singer-songwriter Adam Holmes and very chuffed to be opening up as one of the support acts (along with fellow Adam Holmes & the Embers band mate Colin Train).

Tonight we return to the lovely Drouthy Cobbler, Elgin.

I’m also proud to be participating in a couple of A Songwriter’s Circle events. Conceived by singer-songwriter Douglas Kay and inspired by the BBC Songwriter’s Circle Series these involve a group of us performing our songs, discussing the writing process them and possibly a wee bit of collaboration.

The first of these is at The Steeple, Newburgh featuring Douglas Kay, Alan R Davison, John Sloan and myself.

On August 9th we’re together again with another pal, the supremely talented Kirsten Adamson at House Concerts Moffat.

More gigs on the gigs page including a return to the Edinburgh Fringe with my band and a few very special guests.

Tickets on sale at the Fringe Box Office from June 4th but if you’re on my mailing list you may get a wee special deal…

Edinburgh Fringe

I can’t believe it’s August already. I was still coming down from my wee jaunt down-under and in between organising Acoustic Edinburgh and some exciting other plans (to be revealed) I’ve been away with Gecko 3 playing at the lovely Kelburn Garden Party and Knockengorroch festivals, the Wickerman festival with Andi Neate and working on forthcoming albums for Douglas Kay and Vicky Gray.

Now the Fringe is in full swing and I’ve got 4 solo dates this month (see gig diary) including tomorrow night as part of this years Acoustic Edinburgh Festival 2009 where I’m very excited to be playing on the bill with the incredible Polly Paulusma.

Last week’s event with Gecko 3 was a gorgeous atmosphere and I’m doing a bit of a Jools Holland this year by also sitting in on double bass with our remaining two headliners – the stunning Rosie Brown and the amazing Andi Neate.

The line up this year as absolutely stunning so if you can get along to one of our Tuesday night’s you’ll have a smile on your face for a long time after.

Last night was the first of my slots at the Underbelly Coo Cafe “A-coo-stic Night” Moonlight Sessions and it was a lovely atmosphere. I was treated to a set by the incredible Chris Gorman – great songs and amazing voice. Well worth checking out. Thanks to all you guys who came to see me : )

I’m back there on the 23rd and a return to The Aragon Acoustic Sunday on the 30th. Meanwhile, see tomorrow when I open up at Acoustic Edinburgh!

Expect new songs : )
